There are very little colours on the website; the colour scheme of the website seems to be purple and yellow. The overall design of the website is very simple. With very little additional content, such as ads, with only a few throughout the entire site.
The font the website uses has a serif, however this is only for the main body of texts, the rest are bold and clear fonts for titles and such. This is assumed to be easily and quickly read. This is a good choice for the target audience which obviously are, gamers because it provides a clear and easy to read text. Likewise in a video game, people appreciate clear and easy to read text, so it would be a somewhat good choice for not just gamers, but everybody.
At the top of the main site is a featured story which has a banner of its own with an image. This is the article that they will believe to be most desirable to read or most popular so, it gets a place at the very top of the page where you can't ignore it when you load the homepage.
Under this there is a feed of stories.
The website has social media features, such as Facebook likes and Google +1's, this includes a share function. The website also uses hash tags, much like Twitter. These will appeal to many people who are frequently on the web because they are so easy to spot and distinguish between because of how popular the other sites are. This also creates a level of familiarity with the reader if they do use Facebook, Google plus or Twitter.
The website does not take up the entire screen, the width is fixed as it is, leaving white space on either side of the content, this matches the simplistic theme that the site portraits. The website is most likely like this so that it can fit a large number of monitors, rather than just cater to users with either large ones or small ones. The webpage is locked at that ratio, which provides an in between viewable page for a large number of users. Excluding those with tiny screens or those who could be accessing the site via a mobile device such as a phone.
Because of the layout i think that the site is aimed at young adults, the site also loads quickly, this is because there isn't much content to load. Although it is aimed specifically at gamers, who generally have higher connection speeds, but it does make the site more accessible for the general public who may have lesser connections.
